The Edo State Government has announced an indefinite postponement of the reopening of all schools in the state due to the recent increase in fuel prices.
This decision was disclosed in a memo issued by Ojo Akin-Longe, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, in Benin City on Saturday.
The reopening, initially scheduled for September 9, 2024, has been delayed until further notice.
According to the government, the closure is necessary due to heightened tensions and the financial difficulties faced by parents and guardians following the fuel price hike.
Akin-Longe urged parents, guardians, and caregivers to keep a close watch on their children’s activities in light of the ongoing situation and the increasing tension caused by the fuel price increase.
