Nine individuals lost their lives in a truck crash on the Ikirun/Offa Expressway in Osun State. The truck, en route from Niger State to Edo State, was transporting passengers and bags of beans. It’s presumed that the driver lost control, resulting in the crash. The NSCDC confirmed the incident occurred early on Monday.
According to the NSCDC spokesperson, a Mitsubishi Canter truck with Niger State registration number MNA606SB, carrying bags of beans from Niger State to Benin, Edo State, was involved in an accident early Monday morning. Out of the 12 passengers, nine tragically died in the mishap.
The injured were transported to Orotunde Hospital in Ikirun by the FRSC, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the hospital’s morgue. The truck and its cargo were delivered to the Inisa Police Divisional Headquarters for further investigation.
Additionally, two individuals lost their lives in an accident on Christmas Day on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The bus, heading from the Sagamu Interchange towards Mowe, met with the accident before the Redemption Camp. The incident involved a Hiace bus.
The Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed the accident when contacted on Monday. The FRSC reported that the victims’ bodies had been removed, attributing the accident to the bus driver’s improper overtaking.
The FRSC specified the accident occurred at 5:20 pm on Christmas Day, involving 15 individuals—12 men and three women. One person sustained injuries while two men succumbed to the crash.
The collision implicated two vehicles: a Toyota bus with registration TSE266XA and a Mazda bus with registration FKJ215XX. Speeding and improper overtaking were suspected as the causes. The injured were taken to Idera Hospital, while the deceased were taken to the hospital’s morgue.
In light of these incidents, the FRSC urged motorists to avoid speeding and to drive attentively. They also extended sympathies to the victims’ families, encouraging them to contact the Sagamu office for further details.
