The family of a man killed by a Rivers policeman is seeking justice.
Alafuro Peterside, a father of three, was fatally shot by a policeman at a popular bar on Stadium Road in Port Harcourt and was laid to rest at a private cemetery in the Rivers State capital.
During a brief graveside sermon, the family mourned, and attendees, dressed in black, left the venue after the burial.
The burial reception took place at the Port Harcourt Club, where family, friends, and well-wishers paid their last respects.
The murder of 42-year-old Peterside, which occurred in front of his wife and children in early August, sparked public outrage, with groups like the Ijaw Youths Congress advocating for justice.
The Chairman of the Rivers State Civil Society Organisation, Enefaa Geirgewill, urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation.
The police officer responsible for Peterside’s death remains unnamed, but the Commissioner of Police confirmed that the suspect has been charged in court.
Josephine Peter, the younger sister of the deceased, pleaded for a swift and fair trial, emphasizing the need for justice, especially for the young children and widow left behind.
