Ambassador Kabiru Musa, Chargé d’Affaires of the Nigerian Mission in Libya, announced on Monday the successful repatriation of 145 stranded Nigerians through the IOM Voluntary Humanitarian Return program.
The operation, aimed at assisting migrants in Libya, provided accommodation, food, medical screening, clothing, psychosocial support, and safe transportation for the returnees.
In collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Federal Government of Nigeria continues its commitment to bringing back Nigerians facing difficulties abroad.
Ambassador Musa highlighted the evacuation of irregular migrants who expressed a desire to return home due to challenging conditions in detentions.
The repatriation, consisting of 119 women and 26 men, occurred on Monday afternoon from Mitiga International Airport in Libya, with the evacuees expected to land at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos later that evening.
Upon arrival, relevant government agencies are set to oversee the rehabilitation and reintegration of the returnees, reinforcing the government’s dedication to working with the IOM in the Voluntary Humanitarian Return program.
