The federal government is set to import €1.2 million worth of equipment for the rehabilitation of the Eko Bridge. This move was announced during a visit to various bridges in Lagos State, including the Third Mainland, Carter, Falomo, Iddo, Eko, Marina, and Iganmu, where the Minister, along with directors and contractors, disclosed the plan.
The decision to import this equipment is in response to the technical challenges involved in repairing the Eko Bridge’s deck, which requires specialized maintenance.
Dave Umahi, the Minister, highlighted the complexity of the project and emphasized the need for a national maintenance culture to address bridge issues, including concerns regarding the 60-year-old, two-sectioned Third Mainland Bridge.
He also praised the ongoing efforts and expected completion of the Eko Bridge project in 2024, underscoring its significance for transportation to Lagos Island.
