Federal Government inaugurated an Energy Management System (EMS) center in Abuja on Wednesday.

The EMS, designated as a national mini-grid supervisory control and data acquisition system by the Ministry of Power, aims to address the challenge of insufficient energy data in Nigeria’s energy sector, according to Minister Adebayo Adelabu.

Made possible by the Korean government’s development assistance, the center is expected to revolutionize how energy data is managed for electrification initiatives across the country.

The EMS, aligned with the Electricity Act 2023, will play a pivotal role in monitoring rural electrification projects nationwide, as outlined by REA CEO Salihijo.

This infrastructure will facilitate data collection, transmission, aggregation, analytics, and decision support for the efficient management of off-grid electricity.

Salihijo emphasized the integration of the EMS with existing programs, providing real-time insights to navigate the evolving energy landscape with precision.

Notably, the system is poised to strengthen collaboration with power distribution companies in developing, integrating, monitoring, and managing interconnected mini-grids, meeting the requirements of various stakeholders, including the REA, mini-grid developers, state governments, and regulatory bodies like the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Central Bank of Nigeria.
