The FRSC’s findings that 335 fatalities occurred in road accidents between December 15th, 2023, and January 15th, 2024.
Dauda Ali Biu from the FRSC reported a 4% decrease in road accident deaths, with 335 fatalities from December 15th to January 15th, compared to 350 deaths in the same period in 2022.
In the same timeframe, road traffic crashes surged by 19%, with a 13% increase in people involved in accidents compared to 2022. Injuries from road traffic crashes in 2023 rose by 17% compared to the same period in 2022.
The FRSC’s efforts resulted in rescuing 2,319 individuals in 2023, a 13% increase from the 2,050 recorded in 2022.
During the reporting period, five significant crashes were identified, accounting for 58 victims out of the total 335 deaths.
These crashes, caused by factors like overloaded trailers, speed violations, and night trips, highlighted critical safety concerns.
