The embattled Governor of River State, Siminalayi Fubara, firmly stated that he has not engaged in any actions that would justify his impeachment by the state House of Assembly.
Fubara made this declaration on Monday as he addressed his supporters at the Assembly Complex, immediately following the House members, led by their Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, commencing the impeachment proceedings against him.
He challenged them to reveal any wrongdoing that would warrant his impeachment, reaffirming his commitment to delivering the benefits of democracy to the people of Rivers.
Fubara assured the public that he would address this matter at a later time. The day before, there were gunshots and tear gas fired within the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex as lawmakers gathered to initiate the impeachment process against Governor Fubara, also suspending the House leader and some colleagues suspected of being loyal to the governor.
This came after a fire broke out at the Assembly Complex the previous night.
