Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, has taken the step to suspend Chief (Mrs.) Angela Ogeyi Odey, the Director General of the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

This suspension, effective from the close of work on Monday, October 30, 2023, was announced in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Emmanuel Ogbeche.

The statement did not specify the reasons behind the suspension but directed Mrs. Odey to hand over her responsibilities to the most senior director in the Agency.

During the period of her suspension, she is instructed not to be involved, either covertly or overtly, in the administration of SEMA unless otherwise directed by the governor.

Unofficial sources suggest that the suspension might be related to concerns about her handling of palliative distribution, particularly involving food items like rice and non-food items.

Notably, this marks the first suspension of an appointee under Governor Bassey Otu’s administration, as reported by Vanguard.
