In response to the recent clash between the Ilobu and Ifon communities in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has implemented a curfew from 6 am to 6 pm, as announced by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment.
The violence resulted in extensive property damage and the loss of two lives, disrupting the peace of the affected areas as residents fled. Previously, in October, the Governor had imposed a dusk till dawn curfew, which was lifted in December after peace was restored.
A statement from the Government on Tuesday outlined further measures: the establishment of a joint task force comprising stakeholders from the conflicting communities, including traditional chiefs from Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun.
Additionally, a stakeholder meeting with government and security officials, alongside the traditional chiefs, is planned. Immediate deployment of security personnel to the affected areas was also announced.
The Osun Police Command confirmed the arrest of two suspects related to the conflict. According to Yemisi Opalola, the command’s spokesperson, the suspects are undergoing investigation at the State Criminal Department.
Residents are urged to remain calm as security measures are being implemented to restore peace.
