Yesterday witnessed an outpouring of tears as the mortal remains of the former Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, touched down in Nigeria.
The somber moment unfolded as the body, draped in the Nigerian flag, was solemnly lowered from the plane, having been transported from Germany, where the governor passed away on December 26, 2023, stirring a palpable atmosphere of mourning.
The late governor’s family, including his wife Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, children, and siblings, accompanied by Prof. Wole Akeredolu, received the deceased at Murtala International Airport, Lagos State.
Notable figures such as Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Chief of Staff Mr. Tayo Ayinde, and Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, represented by Secretary to the State Government Mr. Tokunbi Talabi, joined the assembly of political allies to pay their respects.
The remains are reported to be in the morgue, with burial arrangements pending family announcement.
