Erling Haaland marked his comeback with Manchester City in a commanding 3-1 victory over Burnley, while Tottenham secured a spot in the Premier League’s top four with a 3-2 win against Brentford.
Haaland, sidelined for nearly two months due to a foot injury, rejoined City, who thrived even in his absence, winning nine and drawing one of the ten games he missed.
Julian Alvarez, filling in for Haaland, celebrated his 24th birthday by netting twice, effectively sealing the victory for City within 22 minutes at the Etihad Stadium.
Rodri added a third goal early in the second half, with Haaland making his return to the pitch 15 minutes from time. Despite Burnley’s late consolation goal by Ameen Al Dakhil, City climbed to second place, trailing Liverpool by only two points pending the outcome of Liverpool’s clash against Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Tottenham rallied from a halftime deficit with a spirited performance against Brentford. After Neal Maupay gave Brentford the lead, Tottenham responded with three quick goals in the second half.
Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson, and Richarlison found the net for Spurs, but Ivan Toney capitalized on an error to pull one back for Brentford.
Despite the late scare, Tottenham held on to secure fourth place, edging past Aston Villa on goal difference in the race for Champions League qualification.
