In a recent police shake-up, the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has ordered the posting and redeployment of 40 senior police officers.
This group includes 14 Assistant Inspectors General of Police and 26 Commissioners of Police, who will be serving in various commands and formations across the country.
This move, which has immediate effect, is aimed at aligning the police force with professionalism, competence, service-driven principles, rule of law compliance, and a people-friendly approach. It also reflects the recent promotions of these senior officers.
The Police Service Commission approved these changes, and the Inspector-General emphasized the importance of instilling professionalism and diligent policing services while urging the officers to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to make policing more accessible to the public.
Among the Assistant Inspectors General of Police deployed are notable individuals like Ogundele Ayodeji, Patrick Edung, Badru Lawal, Bartholomew Onyeka, Suleiman Yusuf, Idowu Owohunwa, Rhoda Olofu, Godwin Aghaulor, Effiom Ekot, Anene Innocent, Odama Ojeka, Ebong Eyibio, Adebowale Williams, and Sahabo Yahaya.
Meanwhile, some of the Commissioners of Police who were redeployed include George Chuku, Ahmed Tijani, Dan Mamman Shawulu, Usman Hayatu, Danjuma Aboki, and Disu Rilwan, among others.
