OSOGBO – Professor Olayinka Kareem, the Vice-Chancellor of Fountain University in Osogbo, Osun state, reveals the inadequacy of professors in Nigerian universities.
During the 13th Fountain University convocation briefing, she highlighted the impact of the Federal Government’s ban on fake foreign universities, emphasizing its positive effect on student enrollment and education standards.
Addressing journalists, Professor Kareem explained that many universities, including Fountain, resort to engaging professors on sabbatical leave or through adjunct positions due to the shortage of qualified personnel.
Drawing from her experience at the University of Ilorin in Kwara state, she asserted that no university in Nigeria has a sufficient number of required professors, attributing this shortfall to the brain drain phenomenon.
Despite these challenges, she assured that Fountain University maintains a practice of employing professors through legitimate means, avoiding the presence of fake professors within the institution.
Furthermore, she dismissed concerns about the Federal Government’s ban, stating that it acts as a blessing for Nigerian higher education by redirecting students to legitimate institutions and potentially boosting enrollment figures, especially for private universities.
