An individual, whose name remains undisclosed, was executed at Zahedan Prison in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan on Saturday.
The execution, confirmed by the country’s judiciary through Mizan Online, cited the man’s guilt of intelligence cooperation and espionage for the hostile Zionist regime (Israel).
The accused was also found guilty of gathering and providing classified information to Mossad, Israel’s intelligence service, with the intention of causing public disruption, as reported by Mizan.
The circumstances of the arrest, trial, and the identity of the individual were not disclosed.
This event follows Iran’s previous disclosure of arresting alleged agents working for other nations, particularly Israel, its regional adversary.
In December 2022, the Islamic republic executed four men convicted of collaborating with Israel’s intelligence services.
Tensions between Iran and Israel, engaged in a long-standing covert conflict, involve accusations from Tehran regarding Israeli sabotage attacks and assassinations against Iran’s nuclear program.
The United States and Israel reciprocate by accusing Iran of using drones and missiles to target American soldiers and Israel-connected ships in the Gulf.
Human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, assert that Iran has one of the highest annual execution rates globally, second only to China.
According to the Iran Human Rights organization in Norway, more than 600 people have been executed in the Islamic republic this year, marking the highest number in eight years. Executions in Iran are typically carried out by hanging.
