In Geidam town, situated in Geidam Local Government Area (LGA) of Yobe State, there was widespread jubilation on Wednesday night after military forces successfully neutralized five suspected members of Boko Haram and apprehended one individual.
It has been reported that during the operation, several AK-47 rifles and motorcycles belonging to the insurgents were seized, while additional terrorists fled with gunshot wounds.
The anonymous businessman in the community expressed satisfaction with the swift response of the Nigerian Army Troops in Geidam.
He highlighted that the recent increase in Boko Haram activities on the outskirts of Geidam had instilled fear among farmers, deterring them from working on their farms. The successful operation that led to the elimination of five Boko Haram members was viewed positively by the residents.
Over the past two months, there have been distressing incidents where Boko Haram took the lives of over three security officers and posed threats to local farmers.
This escalation of violence prompted grievances from the community, as they felt that security forces were not sufficiently addressing the issue. In response, the military, dissatisfied with this situation, deployed troops from Operation Lafiya Dole to mitigate these attacks,” he explained.
Daily Trust also reported a recent incident where suspected insurgents targeted a customs house in Geidam town, tragically claiming the life of an officer named Usman Gombe just last Saturday.
Ambassador Khalid Geidam, a community leader in Geidam, reported that the military took action against the terrorists based on reliable intelligence regarding Boko Haram’s presence around Jororo.
He stated, The valiant troops of 159 Battalion Geidam, under the command of the commanding officer, conducted a raid on the Boko Haram hideout in Jororo.
They successfully neutralized five terrorists, apprehended one, and seized numerous AK-47 rifles. Additionally, some other insurgents fled the scene with gunshot wounds.
