The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of its On-Street Parking Scheme in selected areas across the state, beginning October 2024. Aimed at regulating street parking to enhance traffic flow, the scheme’s initial phase will include Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Surulere, Ikeja, and Lekki.
According to the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), the scheme focuses on efficient management of parking resources rather than revenue generation. LASPA has clarified that no fees will be imposed on churches or worshippers for parking around religious institutions.
The government plans to roll out the scheme gradually over the next four years, covering the entire state. This initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion and establish a more structured parking system in Lagos.
