On a fateful Saturday, a 34-year-old man named John tragically lost his life during a church hangout at Elegushi Beach in Lagos State.
This event unfolded as members of an Ikorodu-based church organized a picnic for their youth, with John among the participants.
Concerns arose when, as the day was coming to an end, the group discovered that John was missing.
An individual informed them that they had seen John entering the water. Despite efforts to search for him, including calling upon lifeguards and divers, they were unable to locate him in the water on that fateful Saturday.
It wasn’t until Tuesday afternoon that his lifeless body was finally found at the beach by the diligent lifeguards. This incident is truly heartbreaking.
A witness who preferred to remain anonymous recounted, A church from Ikorodu had come to Elegushi beach for a hangout on Saturday.
They were just young people who came to have fun, with approximately 35 of them present that day. Late in the afternoon, as they were preparing to leave, a headcount revealed that John was missing.
They initiated a search, and someone reported seeing him walking towards the water, seemingly thinking he could swim.
The church members promptly engaged lifeguards and divers to aid in the search, but it was only on Tuesday, around 1 p.m., that John’s body was recovered from the beach.
Upon contacting the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, it was confirmed that the incident had occurred.
The victim’s family has been notified, and his body is currently at Yaba General Hospital for an autopsy.
