Fayoade Adegoke, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, emphasized that Nigerian police officers are not permitted to search citizens’ phones.
Adegoke clarified that the responsibility for such searches lies within the Police Force’s cyber section, and individuals with suspicions will be taken to the station for authorized personnel to conduct the search.
The statement was made during Adegoke’s visit to Melody FM, 107.7FM, at Iyana-Ipaja, as reported by Kunle Babarinde.
The Commissioner commended the radio station’s efforts and reiterated the open channel for reporting police misconduct or corruption directly to him if dissatisfaction persists after reporting to the DPO or Area Commander.
