Operatives from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) successfully apprehended three notorious ‘one chance’ armed robbers near the Jubilee Bridge around the Abule-Egba area of Lagos on Thursday, January 4th.
The suspects were captured alongside their operational vehicle, a painted T4 commercial bus (APP 406 YE), at the U-turn area of Abule-Egba.
Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, confirmed the arrest, mentioning that one of the suspects managed to escape with a P.O.S machine before the arrival of the policemen.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the apprehended individuals were infamous ‘one-chance’ armed robbers who had been causing terror in Abule-Egba and its surroundings.
Further inquiry revealed that the public had chased the suspects after witnessing a man being pushed out of their vehicle, having been robbed of his valuables.
The robbers attempted to evade arrest by driving recklessly but were eventually captured by LASTMA officials responsible for traffic control in the Abule-Egba axis.
The two captured suspects were subsequently handed over to the policemen at the ‘Ile-Epo’ Police Division for ongoing investigations.
In light of these incidents, LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Bakare Oki Olalekan, urged the public, especially commuters, to remain vigilant and avoid boarding commercial buses by the roadside, commonly known as ‘So-le.’
