Peter Obi, the Labour Party candidate in the February 25 presidential election, has highlighted the critical issue of leadership failure as a significant threat to Africa’s growth and development.
In a series of posts on his X handle on Monday, Obi expressed concern that unless the continent addresses this pervasive challenge, achieving the necessary development goals would remain a distant possibility.
Obi, a former Anambra State governor, emphasized Africa’s immense potential with abundant human and natural resources, including a dynamic workforce and vast arable land.
Despite these advantages, he argued that leadership failure has been a persistent obstacle, hindering progress on the continent.
Citing the late Prof Achebe’s timeless words, Obi stated that the fundamental problem with Africa is a leadership crisis, primarily stemming from the reluctance of African leaders to fulfill their responsibilities.
He urged African youths to actively participate in bringing about positive change and ending the leadership challenges plaguing the continent.
Although Obi came in third in the 2023 presidential election, with the Independent National Electoral Commission declaring Tinubu as the winner, he contested the results, claiming irregularities and asserting that the electoral process was manipulated for predetermined outcomes.
