The Labour Party has suspended its National Treasurer, Oluchi Opara, over allegations of fraud against the party’s leadership.
Opara accused the leadership of mismanaging funds and colluding with the opposition party, a claim denied by the leadership.
Instead, they cite Opara’s violation of party rules as grounds for her suspension. The article also discusses the upcoming elections and the potential for Opara’s reinstatement.
In response to Opara’s accusations, the Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, labeled her a mole and alleged her collaboration with dissidents within the party.
Opara’s suspension followed her failure to attend a meeting summoned by the National Working Committee to address the conflict.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and defended its leadership amidst the controversy.
Following the 2023 general elections, the Labour Party faced criticism for challenging the political status quo. Suspicions arose in late 2022 regarding Opara’s collaboration with expelled party members, branding her a mole conspiring against the party.
The National Working Committee convened an emergency meeting to address Opara’s alleged misconduct and established a disciplinary committee.
Despite multiple invitations, Opara did not attend the meeting held on February 14, prompting further disciplinary measures.
The party, regretful of Opara’s actions, suspended her for six months for failing to participate in the investigation and tarnishing the party’s reputation.
The Labour Party assures its members of continued reform and pursuit of its objectives despite the challenges posed by Opara’s suspension. Opara declined to comment on her suspension.
