Suspected armed robbers recently targeted Ipara-Remo and Ode-Remo communities, home to students from Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade in Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The assailants struck around 1 am on two separate occasions, shooting, looting student hostels, sexually assaulting female students, and leaving some, including Francis Dwumfour, in critical condition.
Photographs obtained by our correspondent depict students with injuries, damaged property, and recovered bullet shells from the attacks.
Students interviewed on Thursday revealed that such robbery incidents have been an ongoing issue in the communities, reaching a peak during the latest assault.
An anonymous source within the community disclosed that besides the recent attack, a similar incident occurred two Fridays ago, resulting in students being shot and one feared dead.
The source also shared a personal experience of being attacked in 2022. Despite a Save our souls call to the police during the assault, the Students Union President, Olatunji Alexander, claimed their plea was ignored, though he disputed reports of a student death.
