Abdulazeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, and Samson Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, have initiated a legal action by filing a fundamental rights suit challenging their ongoing detention in connection with the death of the 27-year-old singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, alias Mohbad.

The suit, filed before the Federal High Court in Lagos, lists the police and Lagos Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun, who ordered their detention for 21 days, as defendants. Both Naira Marley and Sam Larry are each seeking N20 million in compensation.

Their lawyer, Mr. Olalekan Ojo (SAN), is requesting the court to declare their detention unlawful and order their immediate release from custody.

According to the affidavits submitted with their lawsuits, the applicants were arrested on October 3 and 4, 2023, in connection with the death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad.

On October 4, 2023, the Commissioner of Police requested a remand order from the Magistrates’ Court in Yaba, which granted a 21-day remand order that lapsed on October 26, 2023, and has not been renewed.
