The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) applauds the Federal Government for its decision to exempt tertiary institutions, including universities, from the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS).
The student body also praises the resilience of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in advocating for the removal of universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and other tertiary institutions from IPPIS.
In response to persistent demands from ASUU and other staff unions, the Federal Executive Council, led by President Bola Tinubu, approved the exemption of tertiary institutions from IPPIS during its Wednesday meeting.
Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Maman, conveyed this decision and highlighted that Vice-Chancellors and heads of the affected institutions can now undertake recruitment exercises without involving the Head of Service of the Federation.
President Tinubu’s directive aims to streamline recruitment processes and enhance the efficient management of these educational institutions.
Minister Maman clarified that the decision is solely focused on improving the universities’ management efficiency, emphasizing that it is not related to concerns about integrity or preferences for payment platforms.
