The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has announced the appointment of Mr. Beneth Igwe as its new Commissioner of Police, alongside nine others who have been assigned to various commands across the country.
According to Ikechukwu Ani, the spokesperson for the Police Service Commission, the appointments and postings of Igwe and the other commissioners were approved on Wednesday, following the promotion of 14 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the rank of Commissioners.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Beneth Igwe was appointed by Inspector-General of Police Olukayode Egbetokun on January 17th to serve as the Commander of the FCT Special Intervention Squad.
Ani emphasized that the newly appointed Commissioners of Police have the responsibility to rebuild public trust through robust partnerships with the community.
Dr. Solomon Arase, the Chairman of the PSC, reminded the new appointees of the importance of effective leadership in ensuring the security of lives and properties within their jurisdictions.
He urged them to prioritize this responsibility and warned against any excuses for failure.
The newly appointed state Commissioners of Police include Peter Opara, Olughemiga Adesina, Akinwale Adeniran, Mohammed Abba, Abaniwonda Olufemi, Ademola Ayilara, David Iloyanomon, Abayomi Peter, and Hassan Yabnet, each assigned to different states across the country.
