Currently, the minimum wage is N30,000, which the NLC argues is insufficient due to the rising cost of living since it was last set.

This meeting follows President Tinubu’s commitment to proposing a new minimum wage bill to the National Assembly, expected to be submitted soon.

The NLC and the government have been negotiating the minimum wage for some time. In June, the NLC went on strike to demand a higher wage but paused the strike after the government agreed to consider their demands.

Today’s meeting is crucial as it will decide the future of the minimum wage. The NLC insists that the minimum wage must be increased to N250,000 to meet the current cost of living.
