The Nigerian Railway Corporation is set to introduce electronic ticketing for its standard gauge network starting next week.
The Managing Director, Fidet Okhiria, made this announcement during an interview on Wednesday. Okhiria noted that the final testing phase of the e-ticketing platform would be completed on Wednesday, allowing it to go live for a limited audience before becoming available to the general public.
He emphasized that the e-ticket system would help reduce corruption and revenue leakage by directing ticket sales revenue to the government’s coffers. Initially, the e-ticketing service will be implemented on the Abuja-Kaduna route and will later expand to cover other key routes, including Lagos-Ibadan and Itakpe-Warri.
