The misadventure of two stowaways, Abdul Yakubu and Daniel Vincent, who attempted a sea journey to Europe from Lagos Island.

Yakubu, originally a noodle and fried egg seller, lost N70,000 in the process. Vincent admitted their miscalculation, thinking Europe was just a three-day voyage from Tin Can Port in Lagos.

Upon detection by the ship’s crew, they were handed over to the Gambian Immigration Service, eventually returning to Nigeria after the Nigeria High Commission in Banjul provided emergency travel documents.

Mrs. Adesola Adesokan, Comptroller of the NIS at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, cautioned against stowing away, emphasizing its dangers and advising proper channels for migration. She highlighted the age range of the stowaways, urging a need for value reorientation to curb irregular migration.
