The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has temporarily halted its nationwide protest, citing positive progress on its demands after the first day of action.
Acknowledging significant achievements, the NLC plans to reassess the situation and resume the protest if necessary, urging members to sustain support and awareness efforts.
Having achieved primary objectives, including garnering government attention and sparking national discourse, the NLC opted to suspend the protest ahead of schedule.
Expressing gratitude to participants, it calls for ongoing solidarity.
The decision to suspend the protest emerged from a meeting of the NLC’s National Executive Council (NEC), attended by President Comrade Joe Ajaero and Acting General Secretary Comrade Ismail Bello.
The NEC evaluated progress and resolved to suspend the protest based on initial achievements.
Initiated during a full NEC meeting, the two-day nationwide protest aimed to spotlight the challenges faced by Nigerians due to government policies on PMS prices and the Naira’s floating.
Satisfied with the protest’s impact, the NEC opted to engage in further consultations with the government to address the issues, appreciating the support of Nigerians, NLC affiliates, state councils, workers, and civil society allies.
