The National Secretary of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has clarified that the party will not form an alliance with any other political parties in the upcoming bye-elections scheduled for February 3, 2023.
The NNPP is set to contest independently, expressing commitment to winning and emphasizing thorough preparations for success.
In an official statement, the NNPP confirmed its participation in the bye-elections as per the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable.
The party called on its members and supporters to stay dedicated and focused on the forthcoming electoral challenge.
INEC, having released a comprehensive timetable, declared vacancies in the National and State Houses of Assembly due to resignations or deaths of sitting members.
The electoral body urged adherence to the Electoral Act 2022 and its regulations, specifying seats, constituencies, dates, and times for the bye-elections.
The NNPP National Secretary, Dipo Olayoku, disclosed that the party completed primaries, with candidates’ names uploaded on the INEC server. Confident in victory, he reiterated the party’s commitment to fair elections, emphasizing adherence to peaceful conduct.
Addressing voter education, Olayoku highlighted an aggressive campaign to sensitize voters in affected states, mobilizing members to register and participate. The NNPP urged INEC to ensure a transparent and credible electoral process.
Concerning security, the NNPP engaged with security agencies to ensure a peaceful election day and expressed a commitment to non-violence. Olayoku warned against violence or manipulation, vowing legal action if needed.
Logistically, the NNPP assured preparations for candidates and supporters, with plans for volunteer monitoring to prevent malpractice. Transportation arrangements were made to facilitate voting and monitoring in affected states.
In conclusion, Olayoku reaffirmed the NNPP’s dedication to democratic principles, expressing readiness to collaborate with other parties for a successful and people-driven bye-election.
