Ahmed Audi, the head of the NSCDC, emphasized the importance of security personnel abiding by democratic values and respecting the rule of law during a seminar in Abuja on December 4, 2023.
Audi highlighted the significant challenge of the lack of respect for the rule of law in Africa, hindering democratic growth.
He urged security officials to lead by example and uphold the rule of law, stressing its crucial role in fostering peace and progress on the continent.
In response to Audi’s call, Lukas Laible, Deputy Resident Representative of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, emphasized that while security agencies have a clear mandate, individual officers must decide how to carry out their duties within that framework.
Laible encouraged security officers to view their role as an opportunity to make a positive impact in the community, emphasizing that being a leader goes beyond merely following orders.
