The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is set to conduct a one-day sensitization workshop at the Nasarawa State Government House in Lafia on Thursday.
Aimed at addressing the frequent attacks on schools in the North Central geopolitical zone, the event will bring together 500 security personnel.
During a press conference in Doma Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, CSC Tersoo Shaapera, the Commander of the National Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre (NSSRCC), revealed that collaborative efforts with the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police Force, Department of State Services, and private security organizations will be employed to reinforce the safe schools initiative.
Shaapera outlined NSSRCC’s responsibilities, including developing engagement programs for school-host communities, advocacy, capacity development, awareness campaigns, and forensic evidence-based responses.
While acknowledging regional variations, Shaapera highlighted that the issue of school attacks affects all geopolitical zones, citing terrorism, insurgency, security personnel lapses, communal violence, and inter-tribal conflicts as contributing factors.
Expressing confidence in the NSSRCC’s strategic intervention, Shaapera emphasized the government’s commitment and capacity to address school security issues.
The NSCDC State Commandant, Abbas Bappa-Muhammed, assured full support, pledging that all NSCDC personnel in the state would actively protect schools across its 13 LGAs, underscoring the importance of fostering learning in a secure environment.
