Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, urged companies like Lafarge to aid in the reconstruction of the Abeokuta-Ota-Lagos Expressway, emphasizing its pivotal role in the state’s socio-economic growth.
During a visit by Lafarge Africa Plc’s management team to his office in Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun lamented the deteriorating state of the road despite palliative measures by the state government.
Acknowledging the federal government’s approval for the road’s reconstruction, Abiodun highlighted the inflated cost, now estimated at over N150 billion due to inflation in asphalt, diesel, and cement prices.
Abiodun urged companies operating along the route, such as Lafarge, to consider contributing to the reconstruction efforts, citing their significant impact on road conditions through truck operations.
Additionally, he stressed the importance of adhering to global waste disposal standards and commended Lafarge for its contributions to the local economy, including job creation and skills development.
In response, Lafarge’s CEO, Mr. Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainable development, outlining its focus on circular economy, climate, energy, and people.
Alade-Akinyemi highlighted Lafarge’s extensive history of contributing to economic growth and community empowerment in Ogun State, emphasizing its dedication to sustainable growth and prosperity.
