The Onikoyi Descendants Association of Lagos State has called upon President Bola Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene in the ongoing crisis surrounding the vacant stool of Onikoyi of Ikoyi and Imoba lands. Emphasizing the need for enforcing the existing rotational kingship plan, the association, represented by its Public Relations Officer, Prince Tunde Onikoyi, stated:
The late Patrick Ibikunle Fafunwa-Onikoyi occupied the traditional stool until his passing at the age of 92. However, since then, there has been a lack of clarity regarding the succession process. We appeal to key figures such as President Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, the council of Chiefs, and other Lagos leaders to uphold the rotational kingship agreement established in 2006.
This agreement, endorsed by all stakeholders under President Tinubu’s leadership, aimed at bringing peace to the area by instituting a rotational chieftaincy plan involving the ten royal families of Fafunwa, Ojubira, Kubayije, Ilumo, Idewu, Kugbamola, Aluko Ajos, Dosunmu Ajiwe, Adelo, and Dosunmu Iddo.
The resolution from 2006 specifies the order of succession, beginning with the Ojubiari family after the Fafunwa Royal House. To maintain the rightful order, Prince Wasiu Akanni Sulaiman of the Ojubiari family is designated as the next in line for the Onikoyi of Ikoyi and Imoba land.
