In a significant move towards ensuring a free and peaceful election in Osumenyi after 18 years of crisis, the Mobilization Committee, representing the entire community, has organized a peace accord event. Candidates, stakeholders, and community leaders, including the Chairman, members of the Caretaker Committee, Election Organizing Committee, Village Chairmen, and Indigenous Priests, gathered at Osumenyi Unity Plaza to read and sign the election peace accord.
The document, signed by Mr. Okechukwu Ikediego and Aloysius Nwora, aims to harmonize and prepare candidates for the peaceful conduct of the January 5, 2024, general election, emphasizing their commitment to accepting the outcome.
Candidates include Prince Elochukwu Igwenzeka, Titus Elochukwu Mbakpobe, Chibogu Mbanugo, Peter Okafor, Hon. Anakor Ikenna, Chika Onujeme, among others.
Addressing the press, Osumenyi Youth President Dr. Charles Ebulue highlighted the 18-year leadership crisis, the role of the state government, and the youth’s contribution to achieving lasting peace.
He outlined criteria for candidacy, emphasizing indigeneity, reputable character, and moral standards.
Chairman of the Election Committee, Mr. Ikediego, called for peace, urging contestants to accept the election outcome in good faith.
Mr. K.C Udo, representing electoral officers, assured a free, fair, and transparent election, monitored by Anambra State Association of Town Unions and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.
The community is encouraged to participate in the democratic process on January 5.
