The Oyo State Government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, is taking proactive steps to combat banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and other criminal activities by orchestrating a joint-security clearance operation in the forests.
The collaboration involves the military, police, and the Amotekun Corps, aiming to eliminate criminal elements and bolster safety in the region.
Col Olayinka Olayanju (retd), the Commandant of Oyo State Security Network (Amotekun Corps), highlighted these measures in an interview with Saturday Sun.
Governor Makinde’s commitment is geared towards ensuring residents can sleep securely and providing peace of mind for both state inhabitants and travelers.
Recent incidents, such as the invasion of communities around Old Oyo National Park, resulted in casualties and heightened concerns.
The clashes between herdsmen and farmers in Iwajowa Local Government Area also claimed lives, including that of an Amotekun officer.
Chief Sunday Adeyemo (Sunday Igboho) urges increased security presence, and the Oyo State House of Assembly is actively addressing the situation through investigations and collaboration with security forces.
Governor Makinde’s comprehensive approach includes a joint security clearance operation and the construction of a forest road to enhance security.
These initiatives collectively aim to restore much-needed peace and security in the area.
