In the headlines, the Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused former chairmen of the 18 local government areas in the state of continuing to receive salaries even after leaving their positions.
They also claim that these former chairmen didn’t hand over their duties to the most senior council officials after their terms ended in August.
This accusation was made in a statement by the state Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Kennedy Peretei.
Peretei attributed this situation to the absence of the state governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, who is recovering in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The PDP further criticized the state’s absence from important meetings, including one with President Bola Tinubu and the National Police Council in Abuja.
The PDP vowed to resist any attempt by Akeredolu’s team to exploit this situation and harm the state’s well-being. In response, the former local government chairmen, who belong to the All Progressives Congress, strongly denied the allegations, calling them lies from the pit of hell.
They emphasized that they have not received any salaries or financial benefits from their local governments since leaving office and demanded a retraction and an apology from the PDP within 24 hours, threatening legal action if this is not done.
