The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), urging the agency to stick to facts rather than sensationalism in its handling of the case involving former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and ex-finance commissioner Demola Banu.

According to the PDP, the EFCC’s claim that Ahmed and Banu jumped bail is false and misleading.

The party asserts that both individuals are cooperating with the EFCC and have not absconded from the country. It calls on the EFCC to act professionally and base its actions on factual evidence.

Refuting the EFCC’s statement that Banu refused to honor invitations, the PDP’s publicity secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, asserts that Banu always appeared before the EFCC when summoned.

Adewara accuses the agency of attempting to tarnish Banu’s reputation with false claims.

Regarding the recent court hearing where the EFCC alleged Banu had jumped bail, the PDP denies these claims, stating Banu was never granted administrative bail by the EFCC and has consistently cooperated with the agency.

The party argues that the court was misled into issuing a bench warrant for Banu’s arrest.

The PDP highlights that a previous case against Banu was discontinued by the EFCC in 2020, indicating a pattern of politically motivated allegations against him.

It urges the EFCC to focus on fighting corruption rather than engaging in political witch hunts.

The PDP emphasizes the importance of upholding the rule of law, urging the EFCC and the court to refrain from unwarranted prosecutions and to respect due process.

It advises the public to scrutinize the EFCC’s actions critically and advocates for greater transparency and accountability in government institutions.

In conclusion, the PDP reaffirms its commitment to democracy and the rule of law, calling for collaboration to build a just society in Nigeria.

It urges Nigerians to hold the government accountable and emphasizes that transparency is crucial in addressing the nation’s challenges.
