Nigeria’s Ola Aina caught the spotlight with his goal for Nottingham Forest in their 2-0 victory over Aston Villa last Sunday. However, Super Eagles’ head coach has his eyes on Taiwo Awoniyi’s return after a period on the sidelines.

Nigeria is set to face Lesotho and Zimbabwe in the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying matches later this month.

The Portuguese tactician, amidst uncertainty surrounding Napoli striker Victor Osimhen’s availability, is thrilled to have Awoniyi back in the squad.

Awoniyi had withdrawn from the Nigeria squad last month due to a groin injury, missing their international friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.

Awoniyi made his comeback from the groin injury at Anfield last weekend. While not fit enough to start, he did come off the bench in Liverpool’s 3-0 defeat.
