The Nigeria Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has rebutted claims made by Reverend Timothy Daluk, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Mangu Chapter, regarding the conduct of military personnel in addressing security issues in Plateau State.
According to Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, spokesperson for DHQ, Reverend Daluk alleged bias among military personnel towards certain groups in a viral video following an attack on Sabon-gari village in Mangu LGA on Tuesday, 23 January 2024.
The attack, which resulted in casualties and property damage, prompted Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, to impose a 24-hour curfew in Mangu LGA, marking the latest in a series of assaults in the region.
DHQ countered Reverend Daluk’s assertions, denouncing them as baseless and malicious. They clarified that troops from Operation SAFE HAVEN were deployed to enforce the curfew and restore order professionally, resulting in arrests of suspects and recovery of weapons.
Expressing dismay at the dissemination of falsehoods by a religious leader, DHQ affirmed the military’s commitment to impartiality, professionalism, and constitutional duties in safeguarding citizens. They warned of consequences for those violating the law, emphasizing fair and unbiased enforcement.
