Plateau State Records 752 Human Rights Abuse Cases In 2023.

Veronica Abe, the Coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Plateau State, revealed on Monday that the state received a total of 752 complaints between January and November 2023.

The reported cases encompassed issues such as unlawful detention, extrajudicial killings, inhuman treatment, domestic violence, child abuse, child abandonment, rape, denial of inheritance, and forced marriage.

Abe assured that while most cases have been resolved, some are still ongoing, affecting a total of 1,053 individuals, including 166 women and 463 children.

She emphasized the NHRC’s commitment to promptly addressing unresolved cases and urged Plateau residents to report any instances of abuse to the relevant authorities.
