In an operation led by the Intelligence Response Team and Special Tactical Squad, police successfully thwarted a deadly bank robbery in Otukpo, Benue State, resulting in the elimination of five suspects during a gunfight at their hideout in Taraku Village, Buruku LGA.
Four additional suspects were apprehended, and 9 AK-47 rifles were recovered.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, along with IRT Commander DCP Ahmed Mohammed Sani, disclosed these details during a parade of criminals in Abuja, where the arrested individuals admitted to their involvement and implicated other fugitive gang members, including ‘3-star general’ Terzungwe Shionda (deceased), Terlumum Pila, and Ayuko.
Adejobi highlighted that the successful operation aligns with the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun’s ongoing efforts to combat crime nationwide.
A total of 67 suspects involved in various crimes have been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force, with the recovery of substantial ammunition, rifles, and other items.
Noteworthy achievements include the apprehension of three members of a gunrunning syndicate connected to the Christmas Eve attack on Plateau State villages.
Ahmed Sulaimon, Balikisu Aliyu, and Aboki Samuel were taken into custody, leading to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, an AK-49 rifle, 1000 rounds of live ammunition, and 5 magazines.
The IGP reiterated the police’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens, emphasizing their relentless efforts to crack down on criminals and criminal activities to create a safe environment for everyone in Nigeria.
