As climate change accelerates, environmental engagement becomes imperative. The surge in population and consumption exacerbates waste disposal challenges.
On January 24, 2024, Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Co. Ltd. (SEEPCO) spearheaded the ‘Adopt a Waste Bin’ campaign to tackle waste mismanagement in Lagos State.
Notable figures attending included Mrs. Toyin Oguntola – Director, Circular Economy Project, Waste Management Department, Lagos State Ministry of Environment; Mrs. Yewande Obasa Adegbasa – Director, Sanitation Services, Lagos State Ministry of Environment; Venerable Adewuyi – Chairman, Community Development Areas, Alimosho LGA; Chief Akeem, A S – First Vice Chairman, Community Development Areas, Alimosho LGA; and Mr. Adegoke A. – Supervisor, Agriculture and Environment, Alimosho LGA.
Strategic placement of waste bins in communities significantly mitigates environmental impact by promoting proper waste disposal, reducing littering, and facilitating efficient recycling or disposal processes. This approach enhances cleanliness and elevates societal living standards.
During the event, Mrs. Toyin Oguntola emphasized, Our waste dilemma is glaring. SEEPCO’s initiative will enhance well-being and environmental preservation.
By engaging communities, promoting sustainable practices, and advocating for a greener future, such initiatives set a benchmark for holistic support across humanity, moving us towards a world where human actions harmonize with nature.
