In Lagos, a group of soldiers from the 65 Battalion of the Nigerian army stationed at the 81 Division Officers’ Mess in Marina prevented a tragic incident as they successfully intervened to save Mrs. Francesca Spark from taking her own life by jumping into the Lagos Lagoon.
The swift response of the soldiers, who are well-versed in riverine operations, ensured Mrs. Spark’s safety. She was promptly attended to by the battalion’s medical team and subsequently reunited with her husband, Mr. Spark Oghene Ovie, residing in Awoyaya, Lagos.
Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, released a statement acknowledging the soldiers’ vigilance, resourcefulness, bravery, and courage.
Major General Muhammed Takuti Usman, the General Officer Commanding of the 81 Division, commended the soldiers for their application of disaster management training and highlighted the critical role of the military in responding to emergency situations and natural disasters.
He assured the local community of the army’s commitment to safeguarding their well-being and property during such challenging times.
