Mas’ud Olanrewaju Adepoju, my late father, epitomized unwavering dedication to God, fearlessness, and a commitment to truth.

His staunch belief in correcting errors, irrespective of consequences, reflected a deep conviction that failure to do so was akin to committing a sin.

Loyalty to God and destiny defined him, and he embraced life’s challenges as acts permitted by the divine. His pure heart and steadfast commitment to Islam were evident even before he transitioned to a religious leader.

His songs and poetry, known as Ewì in Yoruba, conveyed his disdain for vices, wickedness, and hypocrisy, whether in government, society, or religion.

Despite facing opposition and attempts to silence him, he remained unyielding. His commitment to truth, though fraught with danger, was safeguarded by divine protection.

Remarkably, individuals involved in nefarious activities later sought forgiveness, confessing their misdeeds to him. One such confession involved a former Ooni of Ife, highlighting the strain on their friendship when my father advocated for changes in their practices.

Additionally, a traditionalist who once sought his downfall confessed to unsuccessful attempts, acknowledging my father’s resilience as a testament to a higher power.

Even a prominent masquerader, Ajana, renounced his previous practices, embraced Islam, and sought formal acceptance from my father.

His shocking revelation about the need for human sacrifice during their rituals prompted my father to lead a team in clearing the shrine, respectfully burying numerous skulls found within.

Another encounter involved a former Chief Imam in Ibadan, where my father’s outspokenness and discernment challenged attempts to distort Islamic teachings.

He intervened, rebuking a misguided MC and exemplifying his commitment to uprightness.

In essence, Mas’ud Olanrewaju Adepoju’s legacy is one of fearlessness, truth, and a profound connection to God, leaving an indelible mark on those who encountered his unwavering principles.
