The Ministry of Interior, on behalf of the Federal Government, has freed 178 inmates from Jigawa correctional facilities. This initiative, led by Minister of Interior Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, aims to alleviate congestion by collaborating with various stakeholders, including philanthropists and organizations.
Muazu Garba-Charanchi, NCoS Controller in Jigawa, announced the releases, expressing appreciation for the Minister’s dedication and thanking donors, including Controller-General of Corrections Mr. Haliru Nababa.
The gesture underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing inmate conditions and decongesting correctional facilities nationwide.
At the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Hadejia, Garba-Charanchi urged the freed inmates to lead law-abiding lives and be ambassadors for peace.
He advised remaining inmates to remain calm, facilitating their reformation and demonstrating the government’s welfare commitment.
Garba-Charanchi detailed the breakdown of released inmates from various centers, emphasizing the government’s gratitude for stipends provided.
He highlighted the importance of acquired skills to ensure self-sufficiency and discourage a return to criminal activities.
The initiative includes support for inmates’ successful reintegration into society, exemplifying the government’s holistic approach to corrections.
