The Plateau PDP chairman has endured a harrowing 40 days in captivity, following his abduction during a party meeting on September 23, 2023. Unidentified men in two Hilux vehicles forcibly took him away along the Bukuru expressway in Jos while he was on the phone in his car. He accused the military of involvement, but they denied any responsibility.
As of now, Tari’s relatives have informed me that he remains in captivity. Ezekiel Nyaku, the Chairman of Berom Educational and Cultural Organisation in the Kuru District of Jos South Local Government Area, has expressed deep concern over his disappearance, stating, “We are deeply troubled by this incident. Many of us were hoping that his abductors would have released him by now.
It has been over a month, and his whereabouts are still unknown, raising questions about the possible political motivations behind his abduction, particularly following a party meeting.
It is both surprising and disappointing that the state government, despite being in power, has not taken action to secure his release.
The community remains deeply worried and concerned about Tari’s disappearance. We are actively engaged in efforts to locate the abducted party leader, and we are determined not to give up until we find him.
Recently, during my visit to Abuja, I inquired about the situation with various government offices, including Defence Intelligence, National Intelligence Agency, National Security Adviser, and the Department of State Service.
They informed me that the PDP chairman, Dung Tari, is in DSS custody in Abuja. It is perplexing that they have not allowed anyone to see him or provided an explanation for his month-long captivity. I will continue to provide updates as I learn more.
