In a recent development, the Supreme Court dismissed Atiku Abubakar’s attempt to introduce new evidence challenging President Bola Tinubu’s election. Justice John Inyang Okoro, leading a seven-member panel, expressed concern that allowing such new evidence could extend the proceedings and potentially plunge the country into a state of uncertainty.

Justice Okoro stressed that the highest court lacked the authority to admit fresh evidence.

He emphasized that returning to the days when election disputes could drag on for the entirety of an official’s term would be regrettable.

Justice Okoro firmly stated that the Supreme Court, like the Presidential Election court, lacked the jurisdiction to consider this new evidence.
