Thousands of youths hailing from various regions of Rivers State, with a significant presence from the riverine area, assembled at the government house on Monday in a show of support for Governor Siminalaye Fubara.
This gathering transpired shortly after approximately 24 out of 32 members of the House, under the leadership of Speaker Rt. Hon Martin’s Amaewhule, signed an impeachment notice against Governor Fubara.
It was reported that Governor Fubara was subjected to tear gas when he attempted to address the Assembly to contest the alleged impeachment process.
In response, six lawmakers, including the House Leader Hon Edison Ehie, who were known as Governor Fubara’s supporters, faced suspension due to allegations of involvement in the Assembly’s disturbance on Sunday night.
Some of the young participants, who preferred to remain anonymous, voiced their determination to create unrest within the state if Governor Fubara were to be impeached.
